About Mysore District

Mysore district is Karnataka's heartland of royal and temple heritage, anchored by the city famous for its Dussehra celebrations, silk weaving, and the Wodeyar-era Mysore Palace. Beyond the city itself, the district holds a remarkable spread of Hoysala-era temples and riverside history — from the star-shaped Chennakesava Temple at Somnathpur, one of Karnataka's finest surviving examples of Hoysala architecture, to Talakadu's sand-buried temple town on the banks of the Kaveri.

The district also mixes in a wide range of day-trip experiences: the Srikanteshwara temple at Nanjangud on the Kapila river, the eclectic Folk Lore Museum housed inside the Jayalakshmi Vilas Mansion, and family-friendly stops like the Planet Earth Aquarium near the Infosys campus. Most of these sites sit within an hour of Mysore city, making the district easy to explore over one or two days.
