Gorvanahalli Mahalakshimi is believed to be the goddess of health, wealth and prosperity.

History of Mahalakshmi Temple

Goravanahalli temple was constructed early 1900s. A villager named Abbayya started worshiping Mahalakshmi idol in his house, followed by his brother Thotadappa. Thotadappa was the person who build the temple for worshiping Goddess Mahalakshmi. After the death of Thotadappa, Gorvanahalli Mahalakshmi Temple was worshiped by Chowdaiya.

From year 1910 the temple was completely neglected by villagers. Mahalakshmi temple was renovated in the year 1925 by a lady called Kamalamma. After renovating the temple she left the place and reappeared in the year 1952 and started performing Pooja to Goddess Lakshmi every day. The devotees who visited this temple seem to find changes in health, wealth, social status which resulted in increase of devotees at Goravanahalli Mahalakshi temple.

Story of Goravanahalli Mahalakshmi Temple(Lakshmi Nivasa):

In later 1900s in the Village of Goravanahalli a village named Abbayya heard a voice of a lady saying “Shall I come to your house”. Abbayya told about the voice he heard to his mother. His mother told ‘if you hear the same voice again you ask her to come only if she is Goddess and if she is a devil tell her to not to come with you’. Next day Abbayya did what her mother said. The Goddess Lakshmi came out of the water as an Idol of Mahalakshmi. Abbayya started worshiping this idol and became rich. He used his wealth to serve poor and named it as “Lakshmi Nivasa”. After Abbayyas death his brother Thotadappa continued worshiping the idol and also constructed the temple.
