Namadachilume is located 3Km from Devarayanadurga.
It is a natural spring located on rock strata which flows with cold and pure water throughout the year. Forest department of Karnataka maintains Namada Chilume
History of Namada Chilume
NamadaChilume was believed to be created by Lord Rama during the period of Thethra yuga.
It is circular hole on the rock top, 1 foot in diameter and 2 feet in depth which oozes water continuously throughout the year. Beside the circular hole footprints are found on rock, which is belived to be that of Lord Rama. There is a belief that this place is a source for river Jayamangala and Shimsha.
Story of Rama
The story of Namada chilume is associated with one of the epic Ramayana. In Ramayana as per the promise given to King Dasharatha, Rama along with Sita (Wife) and Lakhmana (Brother) leaves Ayodhya for 14 years of exile (Vanavasa).During the exile (Vanavasa) period Rama, Sita and Lakshmana were believed to have resided in this place.
One day Rama was sitting on the rock, remembers it was time to put Nama /Tilaka on his forehead. He searches for water and fails to find. Rama shot an arrow on the rock, water started oozing from there. He completed his ritual with that water. Hence came to be known as NamadaChilume (Rama Namada Chilume).
Meaning of Nama(TIlaka):
Nama /Tilaka is the mark on the forehead with sandal wood paste or any other coloured vermilion before performing Pooja in Hindu culture.
Dr. Salim Ali
The well know “The Bird Man of India”. Dr. Salim Ali is believed to be resided in this place. There is old Guest house in this place built in the year 1931 sighting opposite to Namadachilume. Dr.Salim Ali was well know Ornithologist who resided in this Guest house in 1938 to carry out his research.

- Deer Park : Deer Park located at NamadaChilume is created and maintained by forest department. This park was created with the moto of preserving deer’s. Deer park offers nominal entrance fee of Rs.10/- per person and Rs.5/- for kids.
- Medical Plants Nursery: Forest department also holds Nursery of medical plants. Nursery has around 300 varieties of medicinal plants which are planted individually for easy identification.
