Parthasarathi and Sri Venugopalaswamy temple is located in Thondanur, a small village of Mandya district. The temple was built during 12th century by Hoysala ruler Vishnuvardhana. Thondanur was believed to be one of the Pancha Narayana kshetra in Purana.

History of Parthasarathi and Sri Venugopalaswamy temple at Thondanur

Parthasarathy and Venugopal Swamy temple is one of the old temples in Thondanur. The temple encloses the statue of Parthasarathi (Sri.Krishna) along with Bhoodevi and Sridevi. The temple also encloses the statue of Yadavanayki. The specialty of the temple is Dancing Gopal Krishna. The statue of dancing Gopal Krishna is very special because the left leg is on the front side nowhere it can be seen, usually right leg will be in the front. 

The temple has Utsavamurthis ( procession idols ) Gopalakrishna along with Rukmini and Sathyabhama. The temple has a stone swing which is used during festivals. 

The Parthasarathi and Sri Venugopalaswamy temple is believed during the Hoysala period. It is an ancient temple having a history of 1000 years. The statue of Sri. Krishna along with Bhoodevi and Sridevi are believed to be installed by Dharmaraj and sage Brigu.
