Venkataramana temple of Thonnur is located in Thonnur village of Mandya District. The Thonnur was the second virtual capital of the Hoysala dynasty during the period of King Vishnuvardhana. they construct many Vishnu temples. Venkataramana temple was constructed during the 12th century.
History of Venkataramana / Srinivasa Temple – Thonnur
Venkataramana temple of Thonnur located on a hillock named Padmagiri. one has to climb the rocky hill to reach the temple. After reaching hillock, one can enjoy the beautiful view of a lake from the top. In the hillock there a unique rock in the form of turtle it is named as turtle rock view.
The temple is believed to construct 1000 years ago during the period of Hoysala. The Pooja will be performed in this temple only on Saturdays.
