Story of Panna Meena Ka Kund
We all know Rajasthan was ruled by the Rajputs. Before the Rajputs came to rule Rajasthan, Jaipur was ruled by ‘Meena clan’. Among them ‘Panna’ was one such very strong ruler.
Meena clan used to wear armaments and weapons and were not easy to be defeated. Meena rulers had taken an oath, not to touch weapons once in a year on the day of Deepavali, and would come to this Kund (well) without their armaments- disarmed, take bath and offer water (Jal Arpan) to their ancestors and go to the nearby Shiva temple to offer prayers.
This was kept as a secret amongst the Meena clan. The secret was disclosed by the drummer to the Rajputs. Rajputs were waiting for the next Deepavali festival to arrive. On the day of Deepavali, when the Meena clan went to the well disarmed, the Rajputs attacked them and killed Panna and took over Amer. Since then this well is known after ‘Panna Meena’ as ‘Panna Meena Ka Kund’.
