About Rajasthan
India's largest state by area, Rajasthan is defined by the Rajput warrior clans who built its forts and palaces, and by the Thar Desert that shapes much of its western landscape. Each major city carries its own colour and character — Jaipur's Pink City, Jodhpur's Blue City, Jaisalmer's Golden City of desert sandstone — making it one of the most visually distinct states to travel through in India.
Beyond its forts and palaces, the state holds major pilgrimage sites like the Ajmer Sharif Dargah and the Brahma Temple at Pushkar, along with hill-station retreats like Mount Abu in Sirohi district. Most travellers base a Rajasthan trip around two or three cities rather than attempting the whole state, given the distances between its districts.
