Coorg Explorer Tour Package
from Bangalore
Misty Hills, Coffee Estates and a Golden Monastery
Coorg — officially Kodagu — has been drawing hill-country travellers from Bangalore for generations, and it's easy to see why once the road starts climbing through the Western Ghats and the air turns cool and coffee-scented.

The trip centres on Madikeri, the old hill capital of the Kodava kingdom. Its fort was raised by Muddu Raja in the 17th century, later renamed and strengthened by Tipu Sultan, and finally rebuilt in stone by the Kodagu rajas — today it houses a museum and a colonial-era church within its walls. A short walk away, Raja's Seat is where the old rulers are said to have watched the sunset over the valley, and it remains the best sundown viewpoint in town.
From Madikeri, the route heads out into the countryside to Abbey Falls, a waterfall that tumbles through private coffee and spice plantations before a hanging bridge lets you look straight into the spray. It's a short walk from the car park but one of the most photographed spots in Kodagu.

No Coorg trip is complete without Namdroling Monastery, better known as the Golden Temple, at Bylakuppe. Built by Tibetan refugees who settled here from 1963 onward, its main hall houses three enormous gilded statues of Buddha, Padmasambhava and Amitayus, and the surrounding settlement is one of the largest Tibetan exile communities outside Tibet itself.
And then there's the coffee. Kodagu grows a large share of India's coffee — both Arabica and Robusta — shaded under silver oak and rosewood and intercropped with pepper vines and cardamom. A working plantation walk, with the smell of drying beans in the air, is as much a part of this trip as any monument.
One Short Trip paces this as a relaxed 2 or 3-day escape — enough time to actually slow down, not just tick off sights.
