About Mandya District
Known as Karnataka's "Sakkare Nadu," or land of sugar, for its sugarcane fields fed by the Kaveri, Mandya district packs an unusual amount of history and nature into a small area between Bangalore and Mysore. Its centrepiece is Srirangapatna — the island fortress capital of Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan, ringed by the Kaveri and home to temples, mausoleums, and Tipu's summer palace, all within walking distance of each other.
Beyond Srirangapatna, the district holds Thonnur's cluster of Vaishnava temples tied to the saint Ramanujacharya, the twin Gaganachukki and Barachukki waterfalls at Shivanasamudra, the birdwatching haven of Ranganathittu, and sunrise treks up Karighatta and Kunti Betta.
